Multiplying Cross-Cultural Leaders
for Baltimore and Beyond
The Need
The greatest hindrance to the health of existing churches and effective church planting is the scarcity of prepared leaders.
Nationally, 4,500 churches closed in 2019 (Lifeway)
90% of churches are declining or have plateaued. (Barna, Thom Rainer)
42% of pastors considered quitting ministry in the last year. (Barna, March 2022)
New models must address the complexities and stress of ministry within our society’s rapid ethnic, racial and class diversification.
BALM builds disciple-making leaders for new and renewed churches.

WHY BALM?
Why Baltimore?
Baltimore is a multiethnic, world-class city known for steamed crabs and Superbowl winners, baseball and the birthplace of our national anthem. Its hospitals and universities draw people from all over the world.
But Baltimore is also a city scarred by record homicides, the legacy of redlining and segregation, the loss of industrial jobs, and intense socioeconomic disparity.
It’s a great place for the gospel to shine!
Why Antioch?
In Antioch, the multiethnic mix of Jesus-followers were first called Christians (Acts 11:26). This cosmopolitan, vital political and economic center became the church planting center of the early Church; the Apostle Paul started his missionary journeys from here.
Why Leadership Movement?
Baltimore is a great place to learn gospel ministry across the divides. Live, work, and attend Metro Baltimore Seminary to be equipped for under $6,000.
